Journaling Through Grief Session Four

Review of Last Week
For those who were unable to join us, or joined us late last week, during our last session we discussed the following topics:
  • We had some issues with Live Streaming so we re-recorded our session. The video was posted to our Youtube channel and is also available on last week's blog page.
  • We continued reviewing Susan Fee's presentation The Healing Power of Journaling, and focused on her first three journal exercises: Sentence Stems, Five Minute Sprints/Timed Exercises and Lists and Structured Writing. (You can read about these first three exercises in the blog post Journaling Exercises for Getting Started)
  • Our Weekly Writing Prompt was to work on the Lists and Structured Writing exercise.
  • Our first Journal Theme was entitled A Changed Life.
This Week's Discussion
For those joining us this week, our session will cover the following:
  • We will continue with Susan Fee's presentation The Healing Power of Journaling, focusing on half of her second set of journal exercises: Community Journals, Clustering, Captured Moments and Alpha Poems.
  • As we did last week, we will review each of these and take the time to focus on each one and perform some of the writing exercises she included.
  • Our Weekly Writing Prompt will focus on the journalism exercise Captured Writing.
  • Our next Journal Theme is entitled Feeling Unprepared.
  • Both our Weekly Writing Prompt and Journal Theme will be posted as their own blog posts.
This Week on Blogger
For those who missed it, I announced that we have our own blog page! Links to this page will aware weekly on our calendar page.

Posted Articles:
  • 5 Benefits of a Grief Journal which we reviewed during our first session. Posted on funeralbasics.org, it is a great piece on the benefits of a grief journal, provides starting writing prompts and discusses how to select a grief journal.
  • Journaling Exercises for Getting Started which are the first three journal exercises that Susan Fee provides in her presentation, The Healing Power of Journaling. For each one, we explore what they are and the post includes any writing prompts that Fee provided.
  • The Healing Power of Journaling by Susan Fee is also up. While not an article, it is her bullet points on the purpose of writing as well as the mechanics of journal writing.
  • Our Weekly Writing Prompt from last week's session on the Structured Writing exercise.
  • Our Journal Theme: A Changed Life is also up completely, which all three writing themes.
